Jan 1 – A new year, a new life

And now, dear lady,
I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning.
I ask that we love one another.
2 John 1:5 (NIV)

Why is the new year such a big deal?  Because we look forward to what we can do, what we may do.  We like new.  We like to say what we will (want) to do now that the new year is here.  I’m going too …

Then the year passes.  We eagerly look forward to ‘the holidays’; until, that is, we realize the new year is coming up and we remember all the things we said at the last new year we were going to do and realize all we neglected to do.  So, we start looking forward to the ‘new year’ so we can begin again.

God’s Word points us to the only new we need, and it is not new, it’s been there since the beginning.  God wants us to love one another.  To encourage each other.  To care.  He wants us to love unconditionally His people, as He does us.  Forgiving each other’s missteps, as He does.

This love for one another is the love of the people, not of what the people do.  Someone may disappoint us but we need to love them while hating the disappointment.  Someone my hurt us, in any number of ways, but God asks that while we hate the hurt and what’s behind it, we still love the person.

Are you able to separate a person from their actions?  Are you able to love the sinner while hating the sin?  This is what we’re called to do.  As you go into this new year remember the new God wants us to follow, “… love one another”.

Prayer: Father as the new year comes upon us, give us the sight to see past the sin and see the sinner and love them for who you made them to be, not for what we make them out to be.  Amen.

After a time of rest, it's time to resurrect this blog with a light on prayer and building our own personal prayer garden. A woman of faith, I want to share my personal insights into God and the Gospel in the hopes that these touch another heart, encouraging them to come to Christ.
