Jan 28 – Pleasing God & Finding Acceptance

I hope my words and thoughts please you.
Lord, you are my Rock, the one who saves me.

The Exodus the Hebrews had looked towards for over 400 years of increasingly cruel, harsh enslavement had finally arrived.  Moses, in both his anger and disappointment, threw down and shattered the words given to him by God.  The words intended to be put in front of the people so they would know what they needed to in order that they could live a holy life.

“And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming,
“The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness,
maintaining love to thousands,
and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.
Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished;
he punishes the children and their children
for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.”         ~~ Exodus 34:6-7

Another characteristic He shows us is His desire that we choose to follow him, Exodus 35:5 pointedly declares “Everyone who is willing”.  Not everyone but everyone who is willing.  The gift of choice is a troubling one.  If He knew what we would do with it, why did He give it?

Humankind has provided plenty of examples of why.  God wants to be loved by us.  In our history, we’ve had men who wanted to be kings (or rulers, etc), they wanted their people to follow them because they believed in them, in what they stood for.  Who were these men?  Stalin, Hitler, Hussein, Castro, Mussolini …. these are but a few.  God knows what would happen when He gave mankind free will; he also knew what would happen if it created a bunch of puppets as these men were trying to do.

How are you living your life today?  Have you taken even one short moment and focused on God?  Have you thanked him for your home, family, car, job, food?  When you last went to church, for those of you that go, did you go to worship God or to make yourself feel better?

Father, as I read this let me see the answers to these questions, and where I have fallen short, let me take the time to do this today. When is the last time you laid on your bed in a dark room and just had a good cry, a good talk with Him who knows all the answers?  When is the last time you truly laid all your concerns at His feet and walked away, letting Him answer as He knows is right?  If you have a spouse or child, when is the last time you totally accepted them for who they are?  How they dressed?  How (what) they smoked or the markings they may cover themselves in or behaviors they have that get on my nerves?  The mistakes they’ve made?  Isn’t that what I want you to do for me today?

After a time of rest, it's time to resurrect this blog with a light on prayer and building our own personal prayer garden. A woman of faith, I want to share my personal insights into God and the Gospel in the hopes that these touch another heart, encouraging them to come to Christ.
