Feb 15 – Control

After Jesus said this,
he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the time has come.
Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
For you granted him authority over all people
that he might give eternal life
to all those you have given him.
Now this is eternal life:
that they may know you,
the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
whom you have sent.

Balak’s anger burned against Balaam, and he hit his hands together..

Balak said to Balaam,
“I called you to curse those who hate me.
But see, you have done nothing
but pray that good would come to them these three times!
So now run away to your place.
I said I would give you much honor,
but the Lord has kept you from honor.
“Then Balaam said to Balak,
“Did I not tell the men you had sent to me,
‘Even if Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold,
I cannot do anything against the Word of the Lord’?
I said, ‘I cannot do good or bad because I want to.
What the Lord says, I will say.
‘ Now see, I am going to my people.
Come, I will tell you what this people
will do to your people in the days to come.”      –Numbers 24:10-14 (NLV)

Balak was a man, a king, who recognized a God existed.  Balak was a man who realized that some men (people) are gifted with the opportunity to converse with God (Balaam).  Balak was afraid of something he did not understand (the Hebrews, his neighbors) and wanted them to go away.  He sought to control the situation by calling upon a man blessed my God to curse these strangers.  He sought to control a situation he perceived to be bad.  He was afraid.

The verses today remind us that man cannot command (control) something that God does not want to have happen. Balak struggled mightily with this man he knew conversed with God, but would not do what he wanted him to do. He didn’t, couldn’t, grasp that God had bigger and better plans for the Hebrews; plans that would be carried out and he became frustrated.

What is your point of frustration today?  Why is it frustrating you?  Are you trying to control something you have no control over?  Are you trying to apply your own measuring stick to judge successfulness when you don’t understand the bigger plan?  Have you given it over to God and decided to trust in His will and knowledge and blessing?

Heavenly Father, help me to see those things in my life I have not turned over to You, that I hold onto in the misguided belief I control it.  Let me trust fully in You and Your plan, living the day in joy and anticipation of my next step with You, and not against or without You.

After a time of rest, it's time to resurrect this blog with a light on prayer and building our own personal prayer garden. A woman of faith, I want to share my personal insights into God and the Gospel in the hopes that these touch another heart, encouraging them to come to Christ.
